No Late-Season Magic Coming: New York Out of Playoffs

New York Mets shortstop Gary Sheffield was extremely blunt when asked how it felt to have his team be officially eliminated from playoff contention today.

"It sucks," he said.

The Mets have missed the playoffs 11 times in their 16 years as a Doubleday Baseball League franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 10th in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 1981.
