The Chicago Cubs got more than they expected out of Frank DiPino in 1992.
At the age of 36, there were questions about whether or not DiPino could still compete at a high level, but those questions were answered emphatically as he has won the Federal League Fireman of the Year.
On the season, the Syracuse, New York native recorded 4 saves in 62 relief appearances and threw 88.1 innings. He recorded 72 strikeouts and 30 walks, while posting an opponent's batting average of .199.
Doug Jones of the Chicago Cubs finished second in voting, while Rob Dibble of the Minnesota Twins finished third.
