Fireman of the Year Goes to James
Fireman of the Year Goes to James
Tuesday, October 27th, 1992
He's a veteran presence in the Detroit Tigers bullpen and now Bob James can say he's a 1992 award winner.

The bullpen ace was today named the United League Fireman of the Year winner.

"When you're 34 years old, your main objective is to just stay healthy and stay productive. I guess I did that this year," he said.

The award was won on the strength of a season that featured 39 saves in 56 relief appearances, with 49 strikeouts in 49.2 innings and a record of 2-2 to go with his 1.63 ERA.

Bill Caudill of the Oakland Athletics finished second in voting, while Bryan Clark of the Toronto Blue Jays finished third.
