Red-Hot Roomes Scorches Aeros
Wednesday, August 7th, 1991
Tacoma left fielder Rolando Roomes added his name to the record books with a 5-hit spree at Cheney Stadium today, but found his special moment spoiled when the Wichita Aeros took a shootout win over the Twins.
"I would have much preferred getting only a couple of hits and winning the game," he confessed to reporters afterward. "It's hard to go back into the clubhouse and celebrate a 5-hit game when you also lost."
Twins skipper Tacoma z-Manager called Roomes's game "a once-in-a-lifetime moment."
"It's a shame the guy can't really enjoy it," he said. "It's also a shame what happened with our pitching today, but at least that we can try to fix."
Rolando Roomes hit an RBI triple in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run triple in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
This season Roomes has delivered 116 hits in 394 at-bats for a .294 average with 18 home runs. He is getting on base at a .334 clip and his totals also include 77 RBIs and 56 runs scored. This year Roomes has played in 99 games.
