Mercker Gets August's Top Pitcher Trophy

In August, Kent Mercker tore through the American Association like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old.
The young Toledo starter posted a 6-0 mark and an ERA of 1.60 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 45 innings he collected 53 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .204 average.
Up to now Mercker has recorded a record of 19-4. In 26 starts he has fanned 172 batters in 185.2 innings with a 3.25 ERA.
